The Mission of Two By Two
the feature length movie that will change the way we look at the world

Two By Two has a strong and urgent mission to fulfill. It must encourage the proper respect and treatment of animals and the environment around the world.

The acceptability of film and television in many people's lives makes it the perfect medium to educate and enthuse audiences about the current status of our impact on earth. Unfortunate divergence from quality television has lead us into a violent territory, lacking positive messages, imagination, stimulation, and most importantly, consideration.

Animals As: Themselves

One of the most prominent and important distinctions in Two By Two, that most other narratives with animal characters do not make, is that the animals are not based on humans and there are no human voice-overs. These distinctions are vital for viewers to acknowledge and appreciate the animals being animals, not some human-like character in animal form. The animals representations are realistic so that people can appreciate all of the animals the way they are in order to encourage resounding relationships that are built on truth. The animals of Two By Two are presented with crazy situations throughout the movie, highlighting their natural and 'candid' reactions.

Universal

Two By Two is a timeless and universal movie. It transcends cultural and language boundaries and spreads the same message to people around the world, of all ages. Two By Two celebrates the animals' qualities that the audience can understand and appreciate, and most importantly, learn from. Without any prior knowledge needed, without any religious connotations, and without any spoken word, the animation is accessible to all who watch it. The animation will always be relevant as long as we are on earth.

The funny antics of the animals will amuse the younger audiences while the underlying themes and information will entertain the adult audiences. Though the film will be targeted at both, our main concern is children's susceptibility to be influenced. Instinctively, children value certain things without any influence at all. As they get older they learn that "nature is the source of products for the use of human society, their ethical realm shrinks as their view of nature becomes more pragmatic." (Lessons From Nature). As most children grow, they loose much of the compassion they once had for other species, and begin the common view held by adults that humans are a separate entity altogether; rather than a part of the environment. We are passionate about changing this way of thinking. We would like to create strong and long-lasting relationships between people and animals.

Venues of Viewing: Two By Two will eventually be shown by film festivals, school programs, independent theaters, basically any method that assures this animation will reach as many people for the lowest costs to them as well as StartMotions.

International Understanding: We want to make the children and adults appreciate the animals in a different and less confusing way. Imagine being three and thinking the dog or cat can talk because that's what they do on TV. StartMotions would like to adjust this by making animations where the animal characters do not act like humans, they act like themselves and "talk" like themselves. We don't need the human characteristics to make the characters loveable, we allow the audiences to relate to the animals in their true form. In this way, Two By Two will be accessible to people around the world because it won't need subtitles.

Understandable: Two By Two presents a very simple metaphor for our current situation on earth. Animals will crowd on the floating log (earth), during a flood (caused by melting ice caps and global warming). The literal balancing act on the log is a metaphor for the natural balance of life on earth. When the intrusion of the humans is felt, the delicate balance they adapted so easily is lost. Thankfully, the movie also points out solutions to reducing the chaotic imbalance.

Timelessness/Resonance: This animation will be relevant during the entire time humans are on the earth. Because of the universality of the animals and the metaphor which it presents, the animation will always be something humans can learn from

Impact

The film will make audiences more aware of our responsibilities by popularizing the animals and environment's rights and needs. Two By Two depicts the events in the movie as an animal might see them. The movie uses the well-known saying "walk a mile in someone else's shoes" to challenge the audience to realize the importance of having these different but valid viewpoints, as well as the need to preserve them. It entices and encourages everyone to appreciate other forms of life as much as we appreciate our own. Audiences will be surprised they relate to the animals without the commonly used voice-overs or cultural references. We believe that the entire environmental movement is going to be more effective both in the short and the long term if people are enthusiastic about the environment rather than directed to be responsible for it; and an environmentally friendly and eudcational animation seems like the perfect way to get everyone excited!

This project is intended to initiate and demonstrate our cooperative ability to take necessary and effective action. We want to make a clear moral and ethical statement while continuing to encourage the proper respect and treatment of animals and the environment. Two By Two will push conventional boundaries, and contribute a powerful message of the incredible importance of retaining an open mind in order to view the world in a more revealing and honest way. Two By Two inspires the most important form of public dialogue, that which motivates us to change and learn. Sadly, at this point in time, it is solely the human races' interest in the animals that will help keep them alive.
